A flat sensitive volume is generated by the magnet and RF coils at a fixed distance above the magnet surface. An accurate profile of the internal structure of the sample is generated by scanning this sensitive volume (10 mm x 10 mm x 0.1 mm) through the sample.

The unique, powerful Profile NMR-MOUSE® probe, developed by ACT, works hand-in-hand with the Kea2 spectrometer.

The Profile NMR-MOUSE® is a portable open NMR sensor equipped with a novel permanent magnet geometry that generates a highly flat sensitive volume parallel to the scanner surface. To excite and detect the NMR signal of this volume, a surface RF coil is placed on top of the magnet at a position that defines the maximum penetration into the sample. As the sensitive slice is repositioned across the object, this unilateral NMR scanner produces one-dimensional profiles of the sample structure with a spatial resolution better than five micrometers.
